Sarasota, FL – October 14, 2023 – Byte Federal is thrilled to announce that on Friday, October 13th, a groundbreaking transaction was made—a motorist paid for gasoline using Bitcoin’s Lightning Network. This remarkable feat was enabled by Byte Federal’s cutting-edge merchant system, designed to empower businesses with bitcoin and crypto payment solutions.

Our versatile merchant system allows both retail and online businesses to accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies seamlessly. Retailers can utilize our state-of-the-art POS terminals, while online merchants benefit from a comprehensive API and various e-commerce tools. Currently in the beta testing stage, the merchant program is available in Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Ohio. More states will be added to the list soon, and interested merchants can get involved by emailing us at merchant@bytefederal.com. All fees are temporarily waived for the duration of the beta phase.

We’ll introduce various merchant tier levels when the system is fully rolled out. These tiers will include a standard fee of 1.5% and a no-fee option tailored to support small business growth. We believe in facilitating enterprise, and we’re excited about the possibilities this brings.

The merchant program isn’t a standalone feature; it complements Byte Federal’s broader mission to support circular economies. Additionally, we have a nationwide, Lightning-enabled ATM network. Our soon-to-be-relaunched, fully redesigned non-custodial wallet represents another step in pushing the boundaries within the crypto ecosystem.

If you live in Florida, you can buy gas with bitcoin or lightning at the Palmer Market Shell station at 5300 Clark Road, Sarasota, FL.
